TMS Therapy in Orlando
Luxury Psychiatry Clinic, located about 30 minutes west of Orlando in Winter Garden, FL, provides transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for those needing treatment for major depressive disorder and anxiety that aren’t responding well to medicinal treatment.
TMS is an FDA-approved, non-invasive therapy that utilizes repetitive, short magnetic bursts that target specific areas in the brain. Many people respond to TMS therapy after scheduling and receiving several treatments. Furthermore, TMS is covered by most insurance companies.
How We Use TMS Therapy
Specific Nerve Targeting
Transcranial magnetic stimulation works by targeting specific nerve cells in the brain that regulate mood and other depressive symptoms. After physicians map out your brain to target specific neurons, treatment consists of placing a paddle with two loops near your forehead over your scalp. A current travels through the loops which generate an electromagnetic field perpendicular to the paddle. This electromagnetic field is strongest where the two loops (coils) meet.
Brain Pattern Alteration
The coils administer electrical impulses to your brain through your scalp and skull. These impulses cause certain neurons in your brain to fire in a way that alters brain patterns associated with depression and anxiety. By stimulating the neurons through electrical impulses, TMS therapy works through several sessions over several weeks to treat depression and certain anxiety disorders.
Conditions We Treat with TMS Therapy
TMS therapy treats treatment-resistant depression and associated mental health issues, like obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). TMS may also help those with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Treatment-Resistant Depression
Treatment-resistant depression is a very complex, pervasive, serious type of depression that doesn't respond well to or at all to conventional treatment and medications. There are certain parts of the brain responsible for depression and other mood disorders. TMS therapy targets those neurons in the brain's prefrontal cortex.
The brain consists of 90 billion neurons and 100 billion nerves that sometimes slow and misfire, creating pathways to nowhere. TMS therapy stimulates your brain's neurons to create new pathways to the trillions of nerve synapses that help regulate mood and emotion, easing symptoms of depression.
The FDA approved TMS therapy in 2008 to treat treatment-resistant depression. There are currently two types of TMS therapy: repetitive TMS (rTMS) and deep TMS (dTMS).
Anxiety
The FDA approved TMS therapy in 2012 to treat OCD. Other anxiety disorders are still undergoing clinical trials and research and are yet to be FDA-approved. However, discuss your anxiety symptoms and medications during your initial assessment with your intake coordinator to further understand if your anxiety symptoms can be relieved by TMS therapy.

The Future of TMS Therapy
The future of transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy is promising as new clinical trials and research are ongoing around the world. SAINT TMS utilizes functional brain imaging to further specialize therapy and will be available for clinical use this year.

Amber is the best therapist I could have ever asked for!! I got so lucky with her on my first try and she’s seriously helped my entire mental state for the past 2 years. Yulia is also a great psychiatrist— always listens when I have new concerns, first encourages me to try OTC/homeopathic avenues, and then is super helpful & professional if we do decide medication is the right choice.

Major depressive disorder, also known as clinical depression, affects over 7 percent of adults in the United States. Many take medication to ease or alleviate their symptoms. However, medication doesn’t work for everyone.
If you have treatment-resistant depression, consider TMS therapy to provide a non-invasive, medication-free alternative treatment.
